Typical Assessment Processes & Fees
Understanding Your Needs
PsycheLife caters the assessment process to your needs. Some types of client presentations require a full assessment types to ensure due diligence when making a clinical decision about a diagnosis. Sometimes, however, we can choose a different strategy to help you get the answer you needs without the same cost. We will always discuss the options that are available at the intake interview or before we proceed with assessment, to help you make the best decision for you.
It can be good to have an initial meeting to see if we are the right "click" for you and your child, which is very important for trust and rapport and that give us an opportunity to chat with you about any questions or concerns you might have. You can decide later if you'd like to go ahead with the assessment process.
In terms of the cost of the diagnostic process, it seems like a lot all at once, but what normally happens is that we space the appointments out to fit your budget, like once a fortnight or month. You can remove consent at any time.
When we undertake a diagnostic process, information is gathered from different sources and using a range of methods and different informants.
Next steps following diagnosis may include:
A paediatrician appointment. It can take a few months to get in, so it can be good to get a referral from a GP now, then ring around and book an appointment.
Providing the report to school to inform their adjustments to support your child's learning
Using the report to apply for NDIS funding
